WirelessHD (Wireless Display or WiDi) is an industry-led effort to define a specification for the next generation wireless digital network interface for wireless high-definition signal transmission forconsumer electronics products. The consortium currently has over 40 adopters; key members behind the specification include BroadcomIntelLGPanasonicNECSamsungSiBEAMSonyPhilipsand Toshiba. The founders intend the technology to be used for the CE devices, PCs, and portable devices alike.

The Wireless Gigabit Alliance[1] (also known as the WiGig) is an organization promoting the adoption of multi-gigabit speed wireless communications technology operating over the unlicensed 60 GHz frequency band.

The creation of WiGig was announced on May 7, 2009.[2][3][4][5][6] The completed version 1.0 WiGig specification was announced in December 2009.[7][8][9][10][11] In May 2010, WiGig announced the publication of its specification, the opening of its Adopter Program, and the liaison agreement with theWi-Fi Alliance to cooperate on the expansion of Wi-Fi technologies.[12][13]

The WiGig specification will allow devices to communicate without wires at multi-gigabit speeds. It enables high performance wireless data, display and audio applications that supplement the capabilities of today's wireless LAN devices. WiGig tri-band enabled devices, which operate in the 2.4, 5 and 60 GHz bands, will deliver data transfer rates up to 7 Gbit/s, more than 10 times faster than the highest 802.11n rate while maintaining compatibility with existing Wi-Fi devices
