 Early life

Kalpana Chawla a was born in a Punjabi family at KarnalHaryana in 1961 to Banarasi Lal Chawla and Sanjyothi.[1] She was born in Model Town Karnal. Her interest in flying was inspired by J. R. D. Tata, a pioneering Indian pilot and industrialist.[2][3] Kalpana has two sisters (Sunita & Deepa) and a brother (Sanjay). Being the youngest the family members gave her the nickname "Montu". She met and married Jean-Pierre Harrison, a flying instructor and aviation writer, in 1983 and became a naturalized United States citizen in 1990.[4]

Education

Chawla completed her earlier schooling at Tagore Public School, Karnal. She earned her B.E. degree in aeronautical engineering at Punjab Engineering College in Chandigarh in 1982. She moved to the United States in 1982 and obtained a M.S. degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington (1984). 2)Thiruvalluvar (Tamilதிருவள்ளுவர்) is a celebrated Tamil poet who wrote the Thirukkural, a work on ethics in Tamil literature. He is also known by other names like Theiva Pulavar, Valluvar and Poyyamozhi Pulavar.

According to tradition Thiruvalluvar was born at Mylapore. His wife Vasuki was a chaste and devoted lady, an ideal wife, who never disobeyed the orders of her husband, but always carried them out implicitly. Thiruvalluvar showed people that a person could lead the life of a Grihastha or householder, and at the same time, lead a divine life or a life of purity and sanctity. He showed people that there was no necessity to leave the family and become a Sannyasin to lead a divine life of purity and sanctity. All his wise sayings and teachings are now in book form and known as 'Thirukkural'.[1] The Tamil Calendar is dated from that period and referred as Thiruvalluvar Aandu (Year).[2]

The time period of Thiruvalluvar's existence has been based on mostly linguistic evidences rather than archeological evidences since none such has been determined.[3] His period has been estimated to be between second century BC and 8th century AD.

She has recorded songs for over a thousandBollywood movies and has sung songs in over thirty-six regional Indian languages and foreign languages, but primarily in Hindi. Over the years, while several sources have supported this claim, others have raised concerns over its veracity, claiming that this number was highly exaggerated and that Mangeshkar's younger sister, Asha Bhosle, had more song recordings than she had

Childhood and early training

Saina was born in 1990 in a Jat family from Haryana. Her birth was a big disappointment to her grandmother as grandma wanted a boy [7]

In December 1998, Saina's father took her to meet Coach Nani Prasad at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium in Hyderabad. Seeing potential in the girl, Prasad asked Singh to enroll Saina as a summer trainee.

Harvir Singh and Saina, who was 8 years old at the time, would wake at 4am every morning and head to the stadium which was 25 km away. After two hours of practice, Singh would drop Saina at school on his way to work. Sitting behind her father on his scooter, Saina would often fall asleep on these journeys which prompted her mother to accompany them for the next three months.

In order to keep up with the rising cost of her training, Saina's father withdrew money from his savings and provident fund. The tight-rope walk continued until 2002, when sports brand Yonex offered to sponsor Saina's kit. As her status and rankings improved, the sponsorships increased. In 2004, BPCL (Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited).[8] signed the rising star onto their payroll, and she is also supported by Olympic Gold Quest.[9]

Ambani took his company (Reliance) public in 1977, and by 2007 the combined fortune of the family (sons Anil and Mukesh) was 60 billion dollars, making the Ambani's the second richest family in the world, next to theWalton family. Dhirubhai has been one among the select Forbes billionaires and has also figured in the Sunday Times list of top 50 businessmen in Asia.[1]

Dhirubhai started off as a small time worker with Arab merchants in the 1950s and moved to Mumbai in 1958 to start his own business in spices. After making modest profits, he moved into textiles and opened his mill near Ahmedabad. Dhirubhai founded Reliance Industries in 1958. After that it was a saga of expansions and successes.

Reliance's story as a company has been a 'bitter-sweet' saga in India. While on one hand it remains one of the biggest Indian conglomerates,on the other hand it is known to be a company evading taxes and being intransparent.[2] It has presence in various sectors like petrochemicals, textiles and is involved in the production of crude oil and gas, polyester and polymer products. The company's refinery at Jamnagar accounts for over 25% of India's total refining capacity and their plant at Hazira is the biggest chemical complex in India. The company has further diversified into Telecom, Insurance and Internet Businesses, Power Sector and so on. The Reliance group with over 85,000 employees provides almost 5% of the Central Government's total revenue.

In 1986 after a heart attack he handed over his empire to his two sons Anil and Mukesh. His sons have helped Reliance to grow in a more globalized world after economic liberalisation in India, which occurred in 1991.

Swami Vivekananda (Sanskritस्वामी विवेकानन्द Bengaliস্বামী বিবেকানন্দShami Bibekānondo) (January 12, 1863–July 4, 1902), born Narendranath Vishwanath Dutta (Bengaliনরেন্দ্রনাথ দত্ত)[1] was the chief disciple of the 19th century mystic Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and the founder ofRamakrishna Mission.[2] He is considered a key figure in the introduction of Hindu philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga in Europe and America[2] and is also credited with raising interfaith awareness, bringing Hinduism to the status of a world religion during the end of the 19th century.[3] Vivekananda is considered to be a major force in the revival of Hinduism in modern India.[4] He is perhaps best known for his inspiring speech beginning with "Sisters and Brothers of America",[5][6] through which he introduced Hinduism at the Parliament of the World's Religions at Chicago in 1893.[1] Swami Vivekananda was born in an aristocratic Bengali family of Calcutta in 1863. Swami's parents influenced his thinking—the father by his rational mind and the mother by her religioustemperament. From his childhood, he showed inclination towards spirituality and God realization. While searching for a man who could directly demonstrate the reality of God, he came to Ramakrishna and became his disciple. As a guru, Ramakrishna taught him Advaita Vedanta (Hindu religious non-dualism) and that all religions are true, and service to man was the most effective worship of God. After the death of his Guru, Vivekananda became a wandering monk, touring the Indian subcontinent and getting first-hand knowledge of India's condition. He later sailed to Chicago and represented India as a delegate in the 1893 Parliament of World Religions. An eloquent speaker, Vivekananda was invited to several forums in the United States and spoke at universities and clubs. He conducted hundreds of public and private lectures and classes, disseminating Vedanta and Yoga in America, England and a few other countries in Europe. He also established the Vedanta societies in America and England. Later he sailed back to India and in 1897 founded the Ramakrishna Mathand Ramakrishna Mission, a philanthropic and spiritual organization.

16)Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Gujaratiમોહનદાસ કરમચંદ ગાંધીHindiमोहनदास करमचंद गांधी, pronounced [moːˈɦənd̪aːs kəˈrəmtʃənd̪ ˈɡaːnd̪ʱi] ( listen); 2 October 1869 – 30 January 1948) was the pre-eminent political and ideological leader of India during the Indian independence movement. He pioneered satyagraha. This is defined as resistance to tyranny through mass civil disobedience, a philosophy firmly founded upon ahimsa, or totalnonviolence. This concept helped India to gain independence, and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. Gandhi is often referred to as Mahatma Gandhi ([məɦaːt̪maː]Sanskrit: महात्मा mahātmā or "Great Soul", an honorific first applied to him by Rabindranath Tagore).[1]In India he is also called Bapu (Gujaratiબાપુbāpu or "Father"). He is officially honoured in India as the Father of the Nation; his birthday, 2 October, is commemorated there as Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday, and worldwide as the International Day of Non-Violence. Gandhi was assassinated on 30 January 1948 by Nathuram Godse, a Hindu Nationalist.

Gandhi first employed civil disobedience while an expatriate lawyer in South Africa, during the resident Indian community's struggle there for civil rights. After his return to India in 1915, he organised protests by peasants, farmers, and urban labourers concerning excessive land-tax and discrimination. After assuming leadership of the Indian National Congress in 1921, Gandhi led nationwide campaigns to ease poverty, expand women's rights, build religious and ethnic amity, end untouchability, and increase economic self-reliance. Above all, he aimed to achieve Swaraj or the independence of India from foreign domination. Gandhi famously led his followers in the Non-cooperation movement that protested the British-imposed salt tax with the 400 km (240 mi) Dandi Salt March in 1930. Later, in 1942, he launched the Quit India civil disobedience movement demanding immediate independence for India. Gandhi spent a number of years in jail in both South Africa and India.

As a practitioner of ahimsa, Gandhi swore to speak the truth and advocated that others do the same. He lived modestly in a self-sufficient residential community and wore the traditional Indian dhoti and shawl, woven from yarn that he had spun by hand himself. He ate simple vegetarian food, experimented for a time with a fruitarian diet, and undertook long fasts as a means of both self-purification and social protest

17)Jawaharlal Nehru (Hindi/Kashmiri: जवाहरलाल नेहरू, pronounced [dʒəʋaːɦərˈlaːl ˈneːɦru]; 14 November 1889–27 May 1964[4]) was an Indian statesmanwho was the first (and to date the longest-serving) prime minister of India, from 1947 until 1964. One of the leading figures in the Indian independence movement, Nehru was elected by the Congress Party to assume office as independent India's first Prime Minister, and re-elected when the Congress Partywon India's first general election in 1952. As one of the founders of the Non-aligned Movement, he was also an important figure in the international politicsof the post-war era. He is frequently referred to as Pandit Nehru ("pandit" being a Sanskrit and Hindi honorific meaning "scholar" or "teacher") and, specifically in India, as Panditji (with "-ji" being a honorific suffix).

The son of a wealthy Indian barrister and politician, Motilal Nehru, Nehru became a leader of the left wing of the Congress Party when still fairly young. Rising to become Congress President, under the mentorship of Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru was a charismatic and radical leader, advocating complete independence from the British Empire. In the long struggle for Indian independence, in which he was a key player, Nehru was eventually recognized as Gandhi's political heir. Throughout his life, Nehru was also an advocate for Fabian socialism and the public sector as the means by which long-standing challenges of economic development could be addressed by poorer nations.

18)Subhas Chandra Bose

Subhas Chandra Bose (Bengaliসুভাষ চন্দ্র বসু, pronounced Shubhash-Chondro-Boshū) was born 23 January 1897, and is presumed to have died 18 August 1945 (although this is disputed). He was an Indian revolutionary who led an Indian national political and military force against Britain and the Western powers during World War II. Popularly known as Netaji (literally "Respected Leader"), Bose was one of the most prominent leaders in the Indian independence movement and is a legendary figure in India today.

Bose advocated complete independence for India at the earliest, whereas the All-India Congress Committee wanted it in phases, through Dominion status. Finally at the historic Lahore Congress convention, the Congress adopted Purna Swaraj (complete independence) as its motto. Bhagat Singh's martyrdom and the inability of the Congress leaders to save his life infuriated Bose and he started a movement opposing the Gandhi-Irwin Pact. He was imprisoned and expelled from India. Defying the ban, he came back to India and was imprisoned again.

Bose was elected president of the Indian National Congress for two consecutive terms, but had to resign from the post following ideological conflicts withMohandas K. Gandhi and after openly attacking the Congress' foreign and internal policies. Bose believed that Gandhi's tactics of non-violence would never be sufficient to secure India's independence, and advocated violent resistance. He established a separate political party, the All India Forward Bloc and continued to call for the full and immediate independence of India from British rule. He was imprisoned by the British authorities eleven times. His famous motto was "Give me blood and I will give you freedom".

His stance did not change with the outbreak of the Second World War, which he saw as an opportunity to take advantage of British weakness. At the outset of the war, he left India, travelling to the Soviet UnionNazi Germany and Imperial Japan, seeking an alliance with each of them to attack the British government in India. With Imperial Japanese assistance, he re-organised and later led the Azad Hind Fauj or Indian National Army (INA), formed with Indianprisoners-of-war and plantation workers from British MalayaSingapore, and other parts of Southeast Asia, against British forces. With Japanese monetary, political, diplomatic and military assistance, he formed the Azad Hind Government in exile, and regrouped and led the INA in failed military campaigns against the allies at Imphal and in Burma.

His political views and the alliances he made with Nazi and other militarist regimes at war with Britain have been the cause of arguments among historians and politicians, with some accusing him of fascist sympathies, while others in India have been more sympathetic towards the realpolitik that guided his social and political choices.

He is presumed to have died on 18 August 1945 in a plane crash in Taiwan, though the evidence for his death in such an accident has not been universally accepted

19)Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar

Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar About this sound pronunciation  (Marathiसचिन रमेश तेंडुलकर; born 24 April 1973) is an Indian cricketer widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket. He is the leading run-scorer and century maker in Test and one-day international cricket.[7][8][9] He is the only male player to score a double century in the history of ODI cricket.[10][11] In 2002, just 12 years into his career, Wisden ranked him the second greatest Test batsman of all time, behind Donald Bradman, and the second greatest one-day-international (ODI) batsman of all time, behindViv Richards.[12] In September 2007, the Australian leg spinner Shane Warne rated Tendulkar as the greatest player he has played with or against.[13]Tendulkar was the only player of the current generation to be included in Bradman's Eleven.[nb 1] He is sometimes referred to as Little Master orMaster Blaster.[15][16] Tendulkar is seen as an inspiration not only by cricketers but also by many other international sportspersons.[17]

Tendulkar is the first player to score fifty Test centuries, and the first to score fifty centuries in all international cricket combined; he now has 96 centuries in international cricket. On 17 October 2008, when he surpassed Brian Lara's record for the most runs scored in Test cricket, he also became the first batsman to score 12,000, 13,000 and 14,000 runs in that form of the game,[18] having also been the third batsman and first Indian to pass 11,000 runs in Test cricket.[19] He was also the first player to score 10,000 runs in one-day internationals, and also the first player to cross every subsequent 1000-run mark that has been crossed in ODI cricket history and 200 runs in a one-day international match. In the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, Tendulkar surpassed Australia's Allan Border to become the player to cross the 50-run mark the most number of times in Test cricket history, and also the second ever player to score 11 Test centuries against Australia, tying with Sir Jack Hobbs ofEngland more than 70 years previously.[20] Tendulkar passed 30,000 runs in international cricket on 20 November 2009, and has been honoured with the Padma Vibhushan award, India's second highest civilian award, and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, India's highest sporting honor. Tendulkar became the first sportsperson and the first personality without an aviation background to be awarded the honorary rank of Group Captain by the Indian Air Force.[21] He won the 2010 Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for cricketer of the year at the ICC awards.[22]

Tendulkar is the only player to hit 50 Test centuries; he scored his 50th against South Africa on 19 December 2010

26)Rabindranath Tagore (Bengaliরবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুরRobindronath Ţhakur)α[›]β[›] (7 May 1861 – 7 August 1941),γ[›] sobriquet Gurudev,δ[›] was a Bengali poet, novelistmusicianpainter and playwright who reshaped Bengali literature and music. As author of Gitanjali and its "profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful verse",[1] he was the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913.[2] His poetry in translation was viewed as spiritual, and this together with his mesmerizing persona gave him a prophet-like aura in the west but his "elegant prose and magical poetry" still remains largely unknown outside the confines of Bengal.[3]

Pirali Brahmin[4][5][6][7] from Kolkata, Tagore was already writing poems at age eight.[8] At age sixteen, he published his first substantial poetry under the pseudonym Bhanushingho ("Sun Lion")[9][10] and wrote his first short stories and dramas in 1877. Tagore denounced the British Raj and supported independence. His efforts endure in his vast canon and in the institution he founded, Visva-Bharati University.

Tagore modernised Bengali art by spurning rigid classical forms. His novels, stories, songs, dance-dramas, and essays spoke to political and personal topics. Gitanjali (Song Offerings), Gora (Fair-Faced), and Ghare-Baire (The Home and the World) are his best-known works, and his verse, short stories, and novels were acclaimed for their lyricism, colloquialism, naturalism, and contemplation. Tagore was perhaps the only litterateur who penned anthems of two countries - Jana Gana Mana, the Indian national anthem and Amar Shonar Bangla, the Bangladeshi national anthem.

30)Sarath Babu

Sarath Babu is from IIM, Ahmedabad. He was in media for rejecting offers from big companies to start one on his own. Well! He founded "Food King Caterers" out of Ahmedabad & got it expanded to Chennai. He acknowledges that the brand "IIM" gave him a good lift-off for his venture. He had proved that big-brands has great-values. Jumping-in to kickstart a business right after college should have been tough. But this bold mindset & compulsion came from his childhood perils.

Rediff has a good coverage of his whole life. Read it here. One can hear such a story only in movies or novels. It feels good that its from a real life.

Sarath encourages youngsters to become entrepreneurs, so they could provide jobs to other people. Though it sounds similar to earning money by writing a book titled "How to generate money"?  He also tells children, "It does not cost 'money' to dream".

His inspiration is his mother. She had an understanding of what education can do to a person's life. She sold idlis on the pavements of Chennai to educate her son. During daytime, she worked to prepare mid-day meal at the school. In the evenings, she taught at the government's adult education programme.

Sarath recalls, "For kids living in a slum, idlis for breakfast is something very special."

Nothing more can lucidly state his financial position.

Our take: There are always people to Inspire. Lets make best use of them!
