Marvell introduces 1.5 GHz Tri-Core processors for smartphones

Marvell has introduced a new tri-core processor, the Armada 628, which has an impressive 1.5 GHz for the two main cores, and 624 MHz for the low power core. Designed for powering smartphones and tablets, this tri-core processor can deliver dual stream 1080p 3D video to your mobile device.

According to Marvell, the Armada supports RIM OS, Android, Linux, and Windows Mobile. The company claims that the Armada 628 is ultra-low-power and can handle 10 hours of 1080p HD video playback or 140 hours of music on a single charge. It should also be able to output to two LCD screens simultaneously as well as over HDMI.

Graphics has given a new dimension with the Armada 628 which can handle full Flash, Open GL ES 2.0, DirectX, 1080p dual stream 3D video applications at 30 frames per second, 3D renderings of 200 million triangles per second, and can plays with USB 3.0 and HDMI outputs. Currently, Marvell is offering samples to customers.
