HR - Bosses favorite, while employees dissatisfied

Human resource departments are failing in their most crucial function, that is to help humans. A Decade of L.E.A.D. which charts workplace attitudes in Australia in the past decade based on the Leadership, Employment and Direction surveys commissioned by Leadership Management Australasia figures out the number of staff who feel the needs are being met by them has fallen while the ranks of HR managers have increased, said Paul Bibby of the Sydney Morning Herald.

50 percent of employees felt the HR department was addressing their concerns and about 40 percent of employees said HR had a poor or very poor awareness of what their issues actually were.

''HR departments are plagued by contradiction - they are trying to meet employee needs and expectations on one hand, and the needs and expectations of managers and shareholders,'' said the University of Sydney workplace expert Professor John Shields.
