If you are in a position where you have others working under you, that doesn't give you the liberty to abuse your position or use it for your own advantage. This will lead to you being the subject of hatred of your colleagues. In that scenario, you are bound to be the center of office politics.
Being a team player will take you a long way in the office. You must realize that the company and the team come before you. Being a team player increases your chances of promotion and makes you look like a better person. So even though you have a negative opinion about a colleague, try to refrain from voicing it when at work.
Maintaining a professional attitude at work will make others realize that you are there to work. This will make others involve you less in the politics and gossips at work.
Also learn and follow the culture in your organization. Wearing loud make up or short dresses will shift the focus of dirty gossips on you.
Try and stay away from the office grapevine. If you are a gossip monger, people around you lose respect for you.
Staying busy will not only keep you from people who try to involve you in gossip but also resist you from involving in gossip talks.
Refraining from politics at workplace will help you maintain good mental health and make your working relationships last. So keep in mind that even though you cannot purge politics, you can definitely keep yourself away from them.
